Abstract

Pulau Burung Village, Simpang Empat Subdistrict, Tanah Bumbu Regency, has strong maritime cultural potential as well as beautiful seas and mangrove forests. This potential has not been optimally utilised as a tourism attraction for the village. This Community Service activity aims to increase community awareness of maritime culture-based tourism through the organisation of a katinting boat race with a maximum engine limit of 13 HP. The implementation methods include technical planning, race implementation, and activity evaluation. The activity was held on 21 December 2025, involving approximately 350 participants, comprising village residents, organisers, security personnel, MSMEs, and local tourists. The results of the activity indicate that the katinting boat race is an effective medium for promoting maritime culture, strengthening the identity of coastal villages, and increasing community participation. The involvement of local MSMEs provided a direct economic impact through increased sales and promotion of village products. The 13 HP engine power restriction also supported safety and preserved the traditional character of the boats. Although there were still obstacles in the form of limited access to transportation, promotion, and tourist facilities, this activity proved that local maritime culture has great potential as a sustainable village tourism attraction.
